Blog Response to Computer Programming for All: A New Standard of Literacy by Dan Rowinski, May 18, 2012

This article discusses the possibility of teaching coding to all not just those that specialize in the field. One programmer, Shereef Bishay, shares “Everybody should learn to code, he says, because machine/human and machine/machine interaction is becoming as ubiquitous as human/human interaction. Those who don't know how to code soon will be in the same position as those who couldn't read or write 200 years ago” (Rowinski). I think his opinion is interesting. Even though we are a technologically advanced society I don’t understand how this could be beneficial to everyone. I don’t ever see myself ever wanting or needing to learn how. I think we should leave this to the professionals. I agree with the opposing view in this article shared by Atwood, “Learn to read. Learn to write. Learn to hold a conversation. Learn some basic math. These skills, he says, are more essential than being able to program a computer” (Rowinski).
